Flying Dutchmen Face Lake Forest Tonight In Sentinel/DeVette Opener

The Hope men's basketball team makes its 2013-14 home debut tonight at the Holland Sentinel/Russ DeVette Tournament.

The Flying Dutchmen welcome Illinois Wesleyan, Lake Forest, Ill., and Wilmington, Ohio, for the Sentinel/DeVette Tournament.

Friday's games feature Hope (2-4) against Lake Forest (3-5) at 8 p.m. and Illinois Wesleyan (7-1) against Wilmington (4-3) at 6 p.m. Saturday's games are 1 and 3 p.m., with Hope playing at 3 p.m. no matter Friday's outcome.

On Saturday, Hope will recognize the 1983-84 men's basketball team during a halftime ceremony of the Flying Dutchmen's 3 p.m. game.

This is the 25th DeVette Tournament. Hope has won the event 17 times.

Here is a look at the three teams coming to Hope.

LAKE FOREST

Senior guard James Stack leads the Foresters. He is averaging 14.6 points per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the field.

Two other Lake Forest players are scoring in double figures — sophomore forward Torrey Davis at 11.6 points per game and junior forward Brian Madson at 10.0 ppg. 

Madson and junior forward Tyrone Staggers at the Foresters' top rebounders at 6.0 and 5.5 rebounds, respectively.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN

The Titans, who are ranked No. 3 in the country by d3hoops.com, are averaging 87.5 points per game and beating opponents by 22.4 points per game.

They have five players scoring in double figures. Senior forward Victor Davis tops the Titans at 12.6 per game and rebounding at 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting better than 50 percent (32-of-63) from the field.

Senior forward Andrew Ziemnik and junior guard Dylan Overstreet are scoring 12.1 and 11.4 points, respectively.

WILMINGTON

The Quakers are off to a 4-3 start to the season while averaging 79.0 points per game and outscoring foes by 6.9 points per game.

Senior forward Malcolm Heard III leads Wilmington at 15.0 points per game while shooting 52.1 percent from the field. Junior forward R.J. Leppert also is scoring in double figures at 14.9 points per game with 57.4 percent shooting from the field.
