The 2013 season marked the first season of intercollegiate lacrosse at Hope. Lacrosse has a long tradition at Hope spanning 39 years as a club sport before becoming the 10th intercollegiate sport for men.
In 2012, the Flying Dutchmen posted an 8-5 overall record and advanced to the conference tournament with a fourth-place, regular-season finish.
Junior attack Jacob Kamstra of Zeeland (Zeeland East HS) made All-MIAA First Team. He had teammates who were on the Second Team — senior attack Josh Kamstra of Zeeland (Zeeland East HS), junior midfield offense Niko Pagkanlungan of Naples, Fla. (Barron Collier HS) and junior face off specialist Michael Schofield of Chester, N.J. (Mendham HS).
The Flying Dutchmen posted their first varsity win on March 2, 2013 when they topped Baldwin Wallace, Ohio 14-9 in a match played indoors on a neutral field in Detroit.
Senior captain Josh Kamstra scored six goals to key Hope's offense. Peter Stuckey, Nicklas Raycraft and Parker Osterink scored two goals apiece, while Niko Pagkanlungan and Clint Lyders each had one. Pagkanlungan was credited with three assists while Matt Hemenway had one. Baldwin-Wallace led 7-6 midway through the third quarter before Hope scored five unanswered goals, including two by Kamstra.
Goalkeeper Daniel Flavin was credited was 11 saves.
