The 2012-13 Hope ice hockey season saw senior defender Chris Kunnen of Des Moines, Iowa be named the American College Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 3 Player of the Year.
Kunnen was named an ACHA All-American for a third year. Kunnen is the second Hope player to receive the national Player of the Year honor joining Jeff Guy, who was chosen in 2006-07. Teammate Justin Glick, a junior from Fort Wayne, Ind., also was named an ACHA All-American.
The Flying Dutchmen advanced to the semifinals of the 2013 ACHA tournament. They bowed to eventual national champion and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Adrian College. Kunnen was named to the All-Tournament team. Hope ended with a 29-6-1 record.
Four Flying Dutchmen received 2012-13 post-season honors from the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHC). Two divisional teams were selected and from those an all-conference Dream Team was named.
As a West Division first team honoree, Kunnen was named to the Dream Team and also honored as the Most Valuable Player in the entire conference. It marked the fourth year that Kunnen was named a first-team honoree. Senior forward Jake Green of New Hudson, sophomore forward Drew O'Brien of Grand Rapids, and junior defender Caleb Digison of Midland made the West Division Second Team.
