2013 Season Outlook For Hope Women's Golf

Mary Bradley

The Hope women's golf team will look for more success on and off the course in 2013-14 under the direction of Greg Stafford, who is entering his fifth season.

Last season, Hope finished third in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular-season standings in the fall and in the league's NCAA Division III Championship qualifier in the spring.

Co-captains for the Flying Dutch are senior Mary Bradley of Pierson (Howard City Tri-County HS) and junior Montana Leep of Hastings (Grand Rapids South Christian HS).

Hope's roster of 11 features one senior, four juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen.

Hope has three returning golfers who were chosen Division III All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) — Leep, junior Andrea Powell of Jenison (Hudsonville HS) and sophomore Chelsea Root of Haslett (Haslett HS). The national honor roll recognizes 644 golfers from NCAA Division I, II and III programs who achieved a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average during the 2012-13 school year. This was the first WGCA All-American award for Leep, Powell and Root.

Park also claimed All-MIAA First Team Honors and the MIAA Women's Sportsmanship Award during the 2012-13 school year. Leep, Powell and Root all were among 182 Hope student-athletes who made the MIAA Academic Honor Roll for the 2012-13 school year by maintaining at least a 3.50 GPA.

The Flying Dutch are scheduled to play in nine tournaments this fall, all away from home. The MIAA Championships are October 11-12 at Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek.
