Women's Golf Tees Off at MIAA Spring Finale, Rises to Third Place

The Hope College women's golf team charged up the seasonal standings after firing an opening round 318 at the MIAA Spring Finale on Friday at The Legacy by Arthur Hills Golf Club in Ottawa Lake.

The Flying Dutch carded a third-place round and rose to third place overall after 108 holes. The season's final round for eight MIAA teams tees off on Saturday, April 25, at 9 a.m. at The Legacy.

Junior Kylie Gernaat of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Kalamazoo Christian) led Hope by posting a 5-over-par 77 that featured three birdies. Gernaat sits in eighth place individually for the tournament.

Junior Jaiden Winters of New Carlisle, Indiana (New Prairie) shot 79 for 12th place.

Junior Allyson Zuidema of Northville, Michigan (Northville) finished with an 80 for 13th place.

Trine University's Rylee Smith is the first-round leader after a 3-under 69.

The Flying Dutch also received an 82 from junior Rachael Jones of Grove City, Ohio (Grove City), an 84 from senior Caydee Constant of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven), and an 87 from senior Sara Muir of Ada, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian).

Saint Mary's College carded the low team round of the day at 307 and extended its overall lead to four strokes over second-place Trine. Saint Mary's sits at 1,568 heading into the final round.

At 1,616, Hope leads fourth-place Adrian College by five strokes, fifth-place Kalamazoo by six, and sixth-place Calvin University by 12.
