Look Back At Flying Dutch's 2013 Tennis Season

For the third time in five years and the eighth time in school history, the 2013 Hope women's tennis team competed in the NCAA Division III Championships.

Coached by Adam Ford, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Flying Dutch earned the MIAA's automatic berth in the championship by winning the conference tournament. Hope was also the regular season champion with an 8-0 dual match record. The MIAA title was Hope's 21st in school history. In NCAA play, the Flying Dutch were defeated by DePauw, Ind. in a first round match.

Sophomore Carli Capestany of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) received All-MIAA first team honors for a second year while teammates Casey Baxter, a senior from Saline (Saline HS) and Anna Garcia, a freshman from Battle Creek (Lakeview HS) were named to the All-MIAA second team.

Leah LaBarge, a senior from Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) was named the recipient of the Karen Caine Scholar-Athlete award. A geology major, LaBarge graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She was Hope College s first Caine recipient. The honor was instituted in 2007 in honor of former Adrian College women's tennis coach Karen Caine.
