The Hope College women's golf team completed a perfect run to a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title on Saturday.
The Flying Dutch won the 36-hole league tournament at Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek to clinch the seventh MIAA championship in team history.
Hope finished first in all six 18-hole rounds of MIAA play this fall.
Freshman Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS) shot a final-round 74 to secure tournament medalist honors at 7-over-par. Klintworth is pictured at right.
Hope recorded a team score of 315 on Saturday and a 36-hole total of 633. Coach Greg Stafford's Flying Dutch came in 34 strokes ahead of runner-up Olivet.
Hope, Olivet, Saint Mary's and Trine qualified for next spring's NCAA Division III qualifier. The Flying Dutch will host the last two rounds of the 54-hole event.
Sophomore Britni Gielow of Muskegon, Michigan (Norton Shores HS), shot a final-round 80 for second place at the tournament. She finished eight strokes behind her teammate Klintworth.
Senior Montana Leep of Hastings, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), posted a final-round 79 to tie for fifth at 17-over.
Junior Morgan Leep of Hastings, Michigan (South Christian HS), carded a final-round 82 to place seventh at 18-over.
Freshman Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS), tied for 10th at 23-over after a final-round 82.
The Flying Dutch joined Hope's other MIAA champions from 2001, 1998, 1996, 1993, 1992 and 1991.
Hope averaged 323.3 strokes over 144 holes. The Flying Dutch came within six-tenths of a stroke of matching the MIAA record.
