Box Score
Goalie Kat Dickson posted her ninth shutout of the season on Monday, wrapping up the regular season for the Hope College women's soccer team with a 2-0 win against visiting Calvin on Senior Night.
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion Flying Dutch improved to 15-3-1 overall and concluded league play with a 14-1-1 record.
Hope will host fourth-seeded Albion (11-5-4) in the MIAA Tournament semifinals on Thursday. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
It is the second-highest number of MIAA wins for Hope in a single season. The 2005 team went 15-1 for a share of the league title.
Dickson, pictured top right, made five saves against Calvin at Van Andel Soccer Stadium for her ninth shutout – the second-most number by a Flying Dutch goalie in a single season. Holly Nestle recorded 15 shutouts twice (2005 and 2003).
"I have an incredible group of girls in front of me. It makes my job a lot easier," Dickson said. "We've got a lot of seniority in the back and a lot of experience in the back. They're confident in me, and I'm confident in them. We can rely on each other."
The Flying Dutch have held a total of 10 opponents scoreless this season.
Hope used two second-half goals from their leading scorers to down Calvin (7-10-2, 6-8-2).
Sophomore Elizabeth Perkins of Eaton Rapids, Michigan (Lansing Christian HS), put Hope on the board in the 52nd minute. She headed in a corner kick from senior Maria DeShaw of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), for her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Senior Nora Kirk of Maumee, Ohio (Notre Dame Academy), closed the scoring in the 84th minute with an unassisted goal. It was the third goal of the season against Calvin for Kirk, pictured, bottom right, and a career-high ninth overall.
DeShaw, Dickson and Kirk were two of nine Hope seniors honored before the game.
Others recognized were: Madi Buursma of Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian HS), Mary Cefaratti of Hinsdale, Illinois (Hinsdale Central HS), Brooke Dippel of Mason, Michigan (Mason HS), Erin Jipping of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), and Courtney Schmidt of Lowell, Michigan (Lowell HS).
