The Hope College men's basketball team helped head coach Greg Mitchell celebrate his birthday in style.
The Flying Dutchmen pulled away in the second half for a 73-55 win at Carthage (Wisconsin) on Friday and improved their record to 2-3 overall.
Hope wraps up the Carthage Tournament today at 1 p.m. against Wheaton (Illinois).
Against Carthage, junior center Brock Benson scored a season-high 15 points while shooting 4-of-5 from the field and 7-of-8 from the foul line.
Sophomore forward Harrison Blackledge added 12 points, while junior guard Alex Eidson chipped in 10 points.
The Flying Dutchmen used a 16-0 run three seconds short of nine minutes long to extend their lead to 73-50 with 1 ½ minutes remaining.
For the game, Hope shot 82.8 percent from the foul line (24-of-29) and 48.9 percent from the field (22-of-45).
Wheaton (5-2) defeated 19th-ranked Calvin 70-66 in Friday's first game behind Brayden Teuscher's 28 points.
