The Hope College ice hockey team came close to claiming an American College Hockey Association Division 3 title before losing to 1-0 to Adrian College's Gold team on Saturday in Coral Springs, Fla.
The Flying Dutchmen (28-6-2-1 overall) finished national runner-up for the fourth time in school history and third time since 2010.
"We're happy to get to this point of the season," Hope coach Chris Van Timmeren said. "It's tough to get here and lose again. I'm proud of the players the way they played the entire season."
The Flying Dutchmen gave up the decisive goal with 4 minutes, 44 seconds remaining in the third period.
"It was a real tight game," Van Timmeren said. "We couldn't find the back of the net. They found a way to get one past (senior goalie Drew Cook of Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington HS))."
