The Hope College women's track & field team posted 10 top-five performances in its first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday, including a school record in the 5K.
Senior Sheri McCormack of Holland (West Ottawa HS) set a school record at the Rhodes (Tenn.) Open while taking third in the 5,000 meters. She had a time of 17 minutes, 10.86 seconds.
McCormack broke a 21-year-old record, surpassing Marcia VanderSall's time of 17:19.90 in 1993.
The Flying Dutch finished as high as second in one event.
Sophomore Julia Stock of Spring Lake (Grand Haven HS) took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead six Hope runners to finish among the top nine finishers. She had a time of 11:49.44.
Sophomore Hayley Schultz of Lancaster, Pa. (Manheim HS), had a third-place time of 12:15.04, while freshman Mackenzie Govier of China, Mich. (Marine City HS), was fifth at 12:47.59.
Hope placed third in the 4 by 100-meter relay with a time of 52.30. Senior Catherine White of Barre, Vt. (Spaulding HS), freshman Sierra Schultz of Kellogg, Iowa (Grinnell Community HS), freshman Reinie Thomas of Portage (Portage Central HS) and junior Emily Smith of Pueblo, Colo, (Jackson Hole HS).
Sophomore Emma Ropski of Park Ridge, Ill. (Maine Township HS), came in fourth in the 800 at 2:21.43.
The Flying Dutchmen were fourth in the 4 by 400 relay. Sophomore Jane Pearson of Lake City (Northern Michigan Christian HS), sophomore Aurulie McCarus of Lansing (Lansing Catholic Central HS), Smith and senior Caitlin Schwark of Wheaton, Ill. (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS) had a time of 4:08.15.
Pearson took fifth in the 400 hurdles with a run of 1:06.6.
McCarus placed fifth in high jump by leaping 4-11.
Senior Amelia Stanley of Grand Rapids (Northview HS) was fifth in the pole vault. She cleared 9-6 ¼.
