Track's Sara Schermerhorn Clocks Nation's Fourth-Fastest 100-Meter Run at GVSU

The Hope College women's track and field team recorded multiple top-eight finishes on Saturday at Grand Valley State University, highlighted by national-ranking performances in the sprints and middle-distance events.

Senior Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) led the Flying Dutch with a third-place finish in the 100 meters, clocking 11.68 seconds, a time that ranks No. 4 in NCAA Division III this season. Sophomore Sofia Fisher (Lombard, Illinois / Montini Catholic) added a seventh-place finish in 11.94, moving to No. 16 nationally.

Hope's 4x100-meter relay team of Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline), Schermerhorn, Jaidyn Klimp (Galesburg, Michigan / Galesburg Augusta), and Fisher placed second in 47.08 seconds, a season-best time that ranks No. 16 in Division III.

In the 800 meters, sophomore Erin Stuk (Pinckney, Michigan / Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard) placed fourth with a personal-best time of 2:21.49. Freshman Savannah Jackson (Saint Charles, Illinois / Saint Charles East) followed in fifth at 2:21.54, also a personal best, while freshman Cami Kraai (Whitehall, Michigan / Whitehall) finished sixth in 2:21.75.

Senior Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) added a sixth-place finish in the 1,500 meters, crossing in a personal-best 4:33.74, a time that ranks No. 28 in Division III.

Hope will compete next on Thursday-Friday, April 30-May 1, at the MIAA Outdoor Championships, presented by Collegiate Credit Union, at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Competition begins at noon each day.
