Women's Track and Field Clocks Three Season-Best Runs at Last Chance Meets

The Hope College women's track and field team clocked three season-best runs last weekend during last-chance meets in Illinois and Wisconsin, excelling in the 100 and 800-meter runs and the 4x400 relay.

In the 100 meters, sophomore Sofia Fisher of Lombard, Illinois (Montini Catholic), clocked a season-best, runner-up effort of 11.94 seconds on Friday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

In the 800 meters, freshman Miranda Sawvel of Laramie, Wyoming (Centennial) posted a season-best, runner-up effort of 2:15.89 at St. Francis University on Saturday in Lisle, Illinois. Junior Amanda Markham took sixth in the 800 meters at St. Francis, recording a time of 2:19.46.

Fisher ran the second leg of the second-place 4x400 relay, teaming with freshman Savana Monville of Auburn, Michigan (Bay City Western), senior Sara Schermerhorn of Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City West), and senior Frances Cozzens of Lynam, N.H. (Saint Johnsbury Academy) for a season-best performance of 3:52.80.

Fisher also anchored Hope's fifth-place 4x100 relay that went 48.65 seconds and included Monville, Schermerhorn, and senior Ava Schmidt of Saline, Michigan (Saline).

In the hammer, senior Sophia Raymond of Woodstock, Illinois (Woodstock), placed fifth at St. Francis with a toss of 44.35 meters (145 feet, 6 inches).

In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Mary England of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Kalamazoo Christian) finished sixth at St. Francis with a run of 17:10.23. Junior Olivia Ippel of St. Joseph (St. Joseph) took seventh at 17:20.24.

In the shot put, senior Kamryn Bice of Monroe, Michigan (Monroe) was 12th at St. Francis at 11.24 meters (36-10 ½).
