Box Score 2 The Hope College baseball team set two seasons highs during a 12-2 win against Ripon (Wis.) on Wednesday in Winter Haven, Fla.
The Flying Dutchmen posted their best offensive effort with 12 runs and 16 hits during the scheduled nine-inning game.
Junior leftfielder Devin Schaefers of Lake Forest, Calif. (El Toro HS) and sophomore catcher Nick Glowacki of Goodrich (Goodrich HS) shared team-high honors with three RBIs. Schaefers went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored, while Glowacki went 2-4 with two doubles.
Junior first baseman Ben Pearson of Madison, Wis. (West HS), chipped in two RBIs and two runs scored.
The Flying Dutchmen's first three batters in their lineup each had two hits: senior centerfielder Tim Bodine of Gurnee, Ill. (Warren Township HS), senior third baseman Eric Dawson of Grand Haven (Midland HS) and sophomore second baseman Brady VanderWeele of Kalamazoo (Parchment HS).
Winning pitcher Austin Goodyke (1-1) scattered seven hits and two runs over seven innings. The sophomore from Grandville (Calvin Christian HS) struck out three and walked one.
Earlier in the day, Hope lost to Springfield (Mass.) 5-1. Bodine scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning for the Flying Dutchmen, who totaled two hits.
Losing pitcher Currey Thomas (1-1) allowed 10 hits and five runs in eight innings, two of which were earned. The junior from Grandville (Grandville HS) struck out six.
