The Hope College women's track & field team opened the two-day Emory (Ga.) Invitational by winning one event and scoring in eight events.
The invitational concludes Saturday, March 22, in Atlanta.
Sophomore Michelle Kerr of Dearborn (Divine Child HS) won the 10,000 meters. She posted a time of 38 minutes, 23.37 seconds and finished 58 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor.
Hope placed fourth in the 4x800 relay. Junior Katie Afton of Kalamazoo (Portage Central HS), freshman Jessie Hermann of Maple Grove, Minn. (Wayzata HS), sophomore Emma Ropski of Maine Township (Wayzata HS) and junior Emily Wrozek of Clarklake (Hanover Horton HS) clocked a time of 9:36.12.
Freshman Erin Herrmann of Wheaton, Ill. (Wheaton-Warrenville HS), finished fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:57.13. Hayley Schultz was seventh in 12:04.32.
In the distance medley relay, Hope recorded a fifth-place run of 13:22.3. Freshman Mackenzie Govier of China, Mich. (Marine City HS), Hermann, sophomore Amanda Dort of Alpena (Alpena HS) and sophomore Jessica Gaines of Sterling Heights (Utica Academy) were on the relay.
Sophomore Jane Pearson of Lake City (Northern Micigan Christian HS) had a seventh-place finish in the javelin of 29.45.
Sophomore Aurelie McCarus of Lansing (Catholic Central HS) tied for seventh in the high jump by clearing 1.50 meters.
Hope was eighth in the 4x800 relay. Sophomore Christin Bothe of Dekalb, Ill. (DeKalb HS), Dort, Gaines and Govier had a time of 10:20.96.
