Jaidyn Klimp Surges Ahead at Day 1 of MIAA Women's Heptathlon Championships

Hope College freshman Jaidyn Klimp grabbed the Day 1 heptathlon lead on Monday at the MIAA Outdoor Championships – Combined Events, presented by Collegiate Credit Union.

Klimp (Galesburg, Michigan / Galesburg Augusta) led a field of 13 at Brewer Track with a first-place showing of 2,975 points after four events — 390 points ahead of second-place Hannah Flores Ness of Trine University.


The final three events will be held on Tuesday, April 21, beginning at 3:30 p.m.


Klimp delivered a dominant all-around performance, highlighted by a winning and personal-best clearance of 1.67 meters (5 feet, 5 ¾ inches) in the high jump, just 0.06 meters shy of the Hope College school record set in 1982. She also won the 100-meter hurdles (15.29) and 200 meters (26.24).


Freshman Eliana Kotsonis (Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin / Hamilton) added a fifth-place standing with 2,364 points.


Kotsonis, pictured below, opened with multiple personal-best performances, including the 100-meter hurdles (16.67), high jump (1.49 meters / 4-10 ½), and shot put (8.76 meters / 28-9).
