Box Score 2 The Hope College baseball team fell into third place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings after getting swept at home by Kalamazoo College on Thursday.
The Flying Dutchmen lost 4-1 and 7-4 after two late Kalamazoo rallies at Boeve Stadium.
Hope fell to 12-12 overall and 8-6 in MIAA play.
In the first game, the Flying Dutchmen surrendered four unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning after holding a 1-0 lead since shortstop Alex Hunt of Holland (West Ottawa HS) delivered a RBI single in the bottom of the second.
Kalamazoo strung together three consecutive doubles off starter Currey Thomas of Grandville (Grandville HS) after Hope's second error of the inning.
The Flying Dutchmen collected 10 hits but stranded 12 runners.
In the second game, Kalamazoo struck again in the top of the seventh. The Hornets scored four runs to take a 7-4 lead, capped by a three-run double by designated hitter Joey Aliotta off freshman reliever Eric Pleahn of Lansing (Catholic Central HS).
Third baseman Eric Dawson of Grand Haven (Midland HS) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Hope.
