The Hope College women's track & field team finished runner-up in two events during the first day of the MIAA Field Day on Thursday at Alma College.
Sophomore Michelle Kerr of Dearborn, Michigan (Divine Child HS), placed second in the 10,000 meters. She posted a time of 38 minutes, 7.59 seconds. Teammate Julia Stock of Spring Lake, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), was fifth at 38:33.32.
In the pole vault, sophomore Kaylee Kish of Bay Village, Ohio (Bay HS), took second place by clearing 9 feet, 9 1/4 inches.
Two teammates also scored in the pole vault— senior Amelia Stanley of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Northview HS), in fourth at 9-6 ¼ and junior Janelle Kirsch of Harbor Beach, Michigan (Harbor Beach HS), in seventh at 8-11 3/4.
The two-day meet resumes on Friday.
Hope has a second-place total of 48 ½ points.
The Flying Dutch also scored in the high jump.
Sophomore Aurelie McCarus of Lansing (Catholic Central HS) took third in the high jump by clearing 5-0 ½. Sophomore Jane Pearson of Lake City, Michigan (Northern Michgan Christian HS), was fifth at 4-11 ½, while junior Jordyn Severt of Traverse City, Michigan (West HS), was eighth at 4-9.
In the high jump, senior Catherine White of Barre, Vermont (Spaulding HS), recorded a third-place leap of 17-0 ½. Pearson was seventh at 15-10 ¼.
Senior Lindsay Nichols of Freeland, Michigan (Freeland HS), placed seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 120 feet.
Calvin College leads with 65.5 points.
