Three Hope College women's tennis players have received All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association honors from the league's coaches for their play during the 2014 season. In addition, senior Mallory Smith of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), has been given the Karen Caine Scholar-Athlete Award.
Sophomore Claire Cooper of Williamston, Michigan (Williamston HS), and freshman Nancy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS), both were chosen to the All-MIAA First Team, while junior Carli Capestany of Hudsonville, Michigan, (Hudsonville HS) made the All-MIAA Second Team.
Both Benda and Cooper went 4-1 in MIAA regular-season matches this season. Capestany had a 4-0 league record.
Smith became Hope's second consecutive recipient of the Karen Caine Scholar-Athlete Award and second overall. She followed Leah LaBarge (2013).
The Karen Caine Scholar-Athlete Award was instituted by the MIAA in 2007 to honor Karen Caine, former long-term women's tennis coach at Adrian College.
