Hope College's Morgan Leep carded a 4-over-par 77 to lead 80 golfers during the first round of the Wisconsin-Whitewater Fall Classic on Friday.
The junior from Hastings, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) helped the Flying Dutch also grab first place heading into the final round Saturday in Delavan, Wisconsin. Hope shot a team score of 322 for a nine-shot lead over Wheaton (Illinois) and Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Leep is three strokes ahead of six golfers, including two teammates: her sister Montana Leep, a senior from Hastings, Michigan (South Christian HS), and sophomore Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS).
Freshman Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS) rounded out the Flying Dutch's scoring with an 86. She is tied for 21st.
Hope is seeking its second tournament victory of the season. The Flying Dutch have finished second or higher in four events this season. Play resumes on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 9 a.m. Central time.
