The Hope College volleyball team moved up one spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III rankings and won its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener on Tuesday.
The third-ranked and 2013 MIAA co-champion Flying Dutch swept Adrian College 25-16, 25-19, 25-9 in front of a DeVos Fieldhouse crowd of 785.
Hope improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in MIAA play.
The Flying Dutch used a balanced attack to spike Adrian (2-3, 0-1 MIAA).
Three different Hope players recorded nine kills apiece: senior outside hitter Jenna Grasmeyer of Jenison, Michigan (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS), senior outside hitter Anna Lynch of Lake Odessa, Michigan (Lakewood HS) and senior middle hitter Jillian Sommerville of Plymouth, Michigan (Salem HS).

Senior outside hitter Amy VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) recorded seven kills for the Flying Dutch.
Junior setter Lauren Hazekamp of Fruitport, Michigan (Fruitport HS), collected a game-high 35 assists for Hope.

The Flying Dutch return to action on Saturday, Sept. 6, when they host two matches at the DeVos Fieldhouse volleyball court: MIAA rival Alma at 2 p.m. and Chicago at 6 p.m.
