Sophomore Emily Joosse of Chillicothe, Ohio (Zane Trace HS), posted a seventh-place run to spark the Hope College women's cross country team to a runner-up finish at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree on Saturday.
Joosse clocked a 6K time of 23 minutes, 31 seconds at Eastern Hills Golf Club for her spot in the field of 120 runners.
Hope scored 59 points to trail only Calvin (20). The Flying Dutch finished ahead of Albion (103), Alma (117), Saint Mary's (121), Adrian (162), Trine (195), Olivet (231) and Kalamazoo (241).
Meet results count one-third toward determining the outright MIAA champion. The league championship meet is Saturday, Nov. 1, at Calvin.
Junior Michelle Kerr of Dearborn, Michigan (Divine Child HS), placed ninth with a time of 23:44. Kerr, pictured, finished two seconds ahead of junior Julia Stock of Spring Lake, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), who was 10th.
Freshman Rachael Webb of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS), came in 16th at 24:23, while sophomore Erin Herrmann of Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton-Warrenville South), was 17th at 24:41 to round out the Flying Dutch's scoring.
Also competing for Hope were seniors Katherine Hauge of Blaine, Minnesota (Minnehah Academy), in 21st at 24:59 and Emily Wrozek of Clarklake, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS), in 22nd at 25:01.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Greater Louisville Invitational.
