The Hope College women's golf team placed second at the 14-team Olivet College Invitational on Saturday after finishing just one shot off the lead at the 36-hole tournament.
The Flying Dutch shot a team score of 665 at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall following rounds of 326 and 339. They edged third-place Carthage (Wisconsin) by one stroke.
Freshman Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS), led Hope with a seventh-place total of 162. She had rounds of 7-over-par 79 and 83.
Sophomore Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), was one stroke behind Klintworth in ninth place. She had rounds of 80 and 83.
Junior Morgan Leep of Hastings, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), finished 18th at 170. She had rounds of 82 and 88.
Freshman Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS), took 19th at 171. She had rounds of 85 and 86.
Golfers finished the first round Saturday morning after play was halted by storms on Friday.
Hope returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the CCIW Challenge in Naperville, Illinois, with Calvin, North Central (Ill.) and Wheaton (Illinois).
