Box Score A career-high performance from center Rebekah Llorens led the nationally ranked Hope College women's basketball team to a 69-60 win at Capital, Ohio, on Friday.
The Flying Dutch rung in the new year with their eighth consecutive win of the season and improved to 11-1 overall.
Llorens matched her career-high with a game-high 23 points during the nonleague game. The senior from Grayslake, Illinois (Grayslake Central HS), scored 23 during a Nov. 16, 2013, win at North Central (Illinois).
Llorens scored 16 points in the second half alone against Capital (6-5) to help Hope extend its 31-26 halftime lead.
Llorens also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for third consecutive double-double and third double-double of the season. It was her third consecutive game with 12 rebounds.
Junior forward Maura McAfee of Midland, Michigan (Midland HS), chipped in her seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She also blocked four shots.
Hope's starters combined for 61 points.
Senior forward Hannah Doell of Center Valley, Pennsylvania (Southern Lehigh HS), and senior guard Brittany Berry of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central HS), scored eight points apiece.
Junior guard Autumn Anderson of Wayland, Michigan (Wayland HS), scored seven points and shared game-high honors with three steals with Llorens.
The Flying Dutch are tied for 10th in the NCAA Division III coaches poll and ranked 13th by d3hoops.com.
Friday was Hope's third win of the week. The Flying Dutch also won twice to take the Ohio Wesleyan Bishop Classic/Hoops For Hope title on Dec. 30-31.
Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 7, when the Flying Dutch resume MIAA play against Albion at DeVos Fieldhouse. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
