Hope Women's Golf Takes Third At MIAA Jamboree; Keeps Overall Lead

The Hope College women's golf team maintained its lead in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings despite a third-place finish in Thursday's league jamboree in Grand Rapids.

The Flying Dutch shot a team score of 340 at The Golf Club at Thornapple Pointe to finish seven strokes behind first-place Saint Mary's and four strokes behind Olivet. 

Hope has a three-round total of 973 that leads Olivet (999), Saint Mary's (1,008), Trine (1,025), Calvin (1,061), Albion (1,082), Alma (1,091) and Adrian (1,126). There are three 18-hole rounds remaining in the regular season.

On Thursday, junior Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), led the Flying Dutch by tying for third among 43 golfers with a 10-over-par 82. She holds the MIAA individual lead by two strokes.

Sophomore Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS), chipped in an 85 to tie for eighth.

Senior Morgan Leep of Hastings, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), shot an 86 to tie for 11th place.

Sophomore Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS), carded an 87 for 14th place.

Sophomore Megan Wierenga of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian HS), had an 82.

Hope returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Trine.
