Erin Herrmann and the Hope College women's cross country team ran with some of best teams in NCAA Division III on Saturday and are pleased with the results.
The 10th-ranked Flying Dutch finished fourth at the 46-team Wisconsin-Oshkosh AAE Invitational by totaling 259 points in Winneconne, Wisconsin. The Lake Breeze Golf Course is where the NCAA Division III Championships will be held next month.
Hope only trailed No. 5 Washington-St. Louis (136), No. 14 Willamette, Oregon (165) and No. 13 Chicago (201).
Herrmann topped the Flying Dutch. The junior from Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS), placed 14th with a 6K time of 21 minutes, 49 seconds.
"Great racing today," Hope coach Mark Northuis said. "We had some very strong performances vs. some of the top Division III teams in the nation."
Senior Julia Stock of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), took 28th at 22:07.
Freshman Avery Lowe of North Muskegon, Michigan (North Muskegon HS), came in 61st at 22:39
Freshman Sarah Neumar of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Huron HS), finished 69th at 22:42.
Freshman Emily Hamilton of Naperville, Illinois (Naperville North HS), clocked an 89th place run of 22:56.
Junior Emily Joosse of Chillicothe, Ohio (Zane Trace HS), placed 92nd at 22:57.
Senior Michelle Kerr of Dearborn, Michigan (Divine Child HS), was 141st at 23.27.
The Flying Dutch also competed in a second division at the meet and took fourth with 132 points.
Sophomore Alexis Guttilla of St. Charles, Illinois (Westminster Christian HS), led Hope in 10th place at 23:26.
Other finishes for the Flying Dutch were: sophomore Ashley Warner in 15th at 23:37, freshman Allison Utting of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS), in 22nd at 24:00, freshman Abby Couwenhoven of Mokena, Illinois (Lincoln-Way East HS), in 37th at 24:47, freshman Kayla Gercak of Portage Michigan (Portage Northern HS), in 48th at 25:09, and Alexandra Moxon of Naperville, Illinois (Naperville North HS), in 78th at 26:00.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 31 at the MIAA Championships hosted by Olivet College.
