The Hope College women's golf team heads into the final week of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association fall season in first place.
The Flying Dutch hold the overall lead after placing fourth during the league jamboree with a score of 345 on Saturday hosted by Trine in Angola, Indiana. They finished eight strokes behind first-place Trine.
Three golfers led Hope at Zollner Golf Course by shooting 84s: junior Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), sophomore Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS), and sophomore Nicole Meyer of Brighton (Brighton HS).
Senior Morgan Leep of Hastings, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), and sophomore Megan Wierenga of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian HS), each chipped in 93s for the Flying Dutch.
Hope has a four-round total of 1,318. The Flying Dutch are ahead of Olivet (1,339), Saint Mary's (1,346), Trine (1,362), Calvin (1,426), Albion (1,436), Alma (1,461), and Adrian (1,508).
The final two rounds of MIAA play are on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10, at Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
