Box Score The Hope College baseball team made its last chance to bat count at Calvin on Monday.
The Flying Dutchmen rallied for a 14-7 win by scoring 14 runs in the top of the seventh inning during their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game in Grand Rapids.
Hope improved to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in MIAA play. The two teams wrap up their four-game series on Tuesday at Boeve Stadium. First pitch is 4 p.m.
Eight different batters collected RBIs as the Flying Dutchmen sent 21 batters to the plate during the seventh.
Hope totaled only two hits and five baserunners the previous six innings combined to trail 5-0 entering its final at-bat.
The Flying Dutchmen capitalized on four walks, including a bases-loaded one for junior catcher Nick Glowacki of Goodrich, Michigan (Goodrich HS), that knocked in the first run, and two hit-by-pitches that resulted in RBIs for junior leftfielder Ryan Konkle of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS), and senior Ben Pearson of Madison, Wisconsin (West HS).
Hope also produced the go-ahead run on a passed ball that plated junior shortstop Brady VanderWeele of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Parchment HS).
Freshman centerfielder Tyler Gulick of East Lansing, Michigan (East Lansing HS), and VanderWeele each delivered two-run singles that were part of the Flying Dutchmen's seven hits during the inning.
Winning pitcher Michael Thomas of Troy, Michigan (Troy HS), pitched one-third of inning. He struck out the only batter he faced, Calvin's last hitter of the sixth.
