Box Score The Hope College baseball team split its second MIAA series of the season on Tuesday after losing to Calvin 12-2 at Boeve Stadium.
The Flying Dutchmen (9-6 overall) are tied for third place in the MIAA standings with Albion. Both teams have 4-4 league records.
Hope led briefly, going up 2-0 in the top of the first inning after a RBI single from junior shortstop Brady VanderWeele of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Parchment HS), and a run-scoring double from sophomore rightfielder JP Batts of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS).
Calvin, however, chased Hope starter Ty Van Wieren of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), with one out in the second inning. The Knights (5-11, 2-6 MIAA), scored three times in the first, three in the second and fourth in the third.
Hope returns to action on Friday when the Flying Dutchmen host reigning MIAA champion Adrian for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
