Sophomore Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), fired a 7-over-par 76 to lead the Hope College women's golf team to a first-round lead at the Trine Spring Classic on Friday in Angola, Indiana.
Gielow's round was the lowest of the day among 64 golfers. She helped the Flying Dutch shoot a team score of 327 and lead second-place Bethel, Indiana, by one stroke and third-place Calvin by 18.
Saturday's final round begins at 1 p.m.
Senior Montana Leep of Hastings, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS), and freshman Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS), are tied for sixth after posting 83s.
Junior Morgan Leep of Hastings, Michigan (South Christian HS), and freshman Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS), are tied for 12th following first-rounds of 85.
The MIAA champion Flying Dutch are seeking their 11th first-place finish of the 2014-15 season.
