Two Hope College baseball pitchers tossed complete games for the Flying Dutchmen in a 6-2 and 7-0 sweep of second-place Kalamazoo on Saturday at Boeve Stadium.

The Flying Dutchmen (13-11 overall) moved into a third-place tie with Albion. Both teams are 8-8 in league play.

Junior Austin Goodyke of Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian HS), and sophomore Ty Van Wieren of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), went the distance on the mound for Hope.

In Game 2, Van Wieren (1-2) fired a three-hit shutout. He struck out seven and walked four against Kalamazoo (13-11, 10-6).

Junior leftfielder Ryan Konkle of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS), slugged a two-run homer in the first and added a two-run doubled during the third.

Senior third baseman Ben Pearson of Madison, Wisconsin (West HS), contributed an RBI single for the Flying Dutchmen, while senior designated hitter Luke Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) had a run-scoring groundout.

In Game 1, Goodyke (3-2) allowed seven hits and two walks. He struck out four.

Goodyke did not yield a run after giving up a two-run single in the top of the third.

The Flying Dutchmen grabbed a 3-2 lead in their half of the inning with two unearned runs and a sacrifice fly from junior shortstop Brady VanderWeele of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Parchment HS).

VanderWeele smacked a two-run double to cap a three-run fourth that included a RBI single from sophomore rightfielder JP Batts of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS). 

Hope returns to action on Thursday when the Flying Dutchmen host Finlandia for a 2 p.m. nonleague doubleheader.
