Sophomore Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), shot a 4-over-par 76 to lead the Hope College women's golf team to a second-place finish at the opening round of the MIAA's 54-hole NCAA Division III Championship qualifier.
The Flying Dutch finished with a team score of 325 on Tuesday at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall and trailed host Olivet by two strokes. Trine (343) took third, while Saint Mary's (365) was fourth.
Hope, the regular-season champions, hosts the final two 18-hole rounds of the qualifier on April 20 and April 25 at The Ravines Golf Club.

Freshman Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS), came into the clubhouse two strokes behind Gielow in second place.
Senior Montana Leep of Hastings, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), chipped in an eighth-place 83.
Junior Morgan Leep of Hastings, Michigan (South Christian HS), and freshman Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS), both had 88s for the Flying Dutch.
