Box Score 2 The Hope College baseball team remained in fourth place in the MIAA standings Saturday despite dropping a doubleheader at Alma 3-0 and 4-3.
The Flying Dutchmen are 19-16 overall and 12-12 in MIAA play. They lead Albion and Trine by one game in the loss column, with both Albion and Trine having played one fewer game as of Saturday.
Hope closes the regular season next week with a four-game series against last-place Olivet.
In Game 2, the Flying Dutchmen lost after Alma scored three times in the bottom of the fifth, then laced a one-out walkoff hit in the seventh.
Hope scored all three of its runs during the top of the first. Junior leftfielder Ryan Konkle o Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS), drove in the first one with a bases-loaded walk, then sophomore rightfielder JP Batts of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) came home during a double play.
Junior designated hitter Luke Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS), added a two-out singles for Hope's third run.
In the opener, the Flying Dutchmen were shut out despite totaling six hits. Luke Brower collected three of them, while senior second baseman Devin Schaefers had two.
Losing pitcher Austin Goodyke of Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian HS), scattered six hits and three runs over three innings. Goodyke (4-3) struck out one.
