The Hope College women's track & field team claimed two individual titles on Thursday during the opening day of the 124th MIAA Field Day.
Senior Julia Stock of Norton Shores, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), and junior Jane Pearson of Lake City, Michigan (Northern Michigan Christian HS), each won events as the Flying Dutch collected a second-place total of 55.83 points after six events at Albion College.
Calvin (91) leads. Trine (35) is third and followed by Albion (27), Olivet (14.66), Adrian (6) and Alma (4). The meet concludes today, beginning at 10 a.m.
Pearson, pictured top right, won the long jump by leaping 17 feet, 1 ½ inches. Freshman Alison Rich of Haslett, Michigan (Haslett HS), was fifth at 16-6 ½.
Stock, pictured bottom right, clocked the fastest time in the 10,000 meters at 36 minutes, 40.85 seconds. Junior Emily Joosee of Chillicothe, Ohio (Zane Trace HS), was fifth at 39:07.94.
Freshman Haley Fischman of Grand Ledge, Michigan (Lansing Catholic Central HS), was runner-up in the discus at 121-7.
Pearson took third in the high at 5-0 ½. Senior Jordyn Severt of Traverse City, Michigan (West HS), placed fifth at 4-11 ½, while freshman Taryn King of East Lansing, Michigan (Haslett HS), was sixth at 4-10 ¼.
Freshman Sarah Murphy of Ada, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern HS), came in fourth in the pole vault after clearing 9-9 ¼.
Senior Lindsay Nichols of Freeland, Michigan (Freeland HS), placed seventh in the hammer throw at 135-4.
Pearson qualified third in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 15.30 seconds and fourth in the 200-meter dash at 26.15.
Freshman Rachel Satkiewicz of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (Seaholm HS), and freshman Rachel Anderson of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), also advanced, coming fifth at 26.25 and seventh at 27.17, respectively.
Hope finished 2-3 in the 400-meter preliminaries. Satkiewicz placed second at 58.81 seconds, while senior Katie Afton of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Portage Central HS), was third at 59.47.
Sophomore Sierra Schultz of Kellogg, Iowa (Grinnell Community HS), and Anderson both qualified for the 100-meter finals by placing third and fifth, respectively, with preliminary times of 13.36 and 13.29.
Schultz also finished third in the 400-meter hurdle prelims at 1:06.999. Rich was seventh at 1:08.78.
Three advanced to the 800-meter run final: sophomore Emma Ropski of Park Ridge, Illinois (Maine Township HS), in fourth at 2:21.42, freshman Rachael Webb of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grandville HS), in sixth at 2:21.97 and freshman Alexis Guttilla of St. Charles, Illinois (Westminster Christian HS), in eighth at 2:25.96.
