Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Hope College baseball team clinched a berth in next week's MIAA Tournament by sweeping Olivet on Senior Day at Boeve Stadium Friday.

The Flying Dutchmen won 2-1 and 9-3 to move three games ahead of fifth-place Albion and Trine with two games remaining.

Hope (21-16 overall) closes the regular season today with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Olivet.

In Game 1, freshman centerfielder Jack Twitty of Rochester, Michigan (Adams HS), laced a one-out, walkoff single to rightfield that plated sophomore rightfielder JP Batts of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS), from third.

Batts led off the seventh with a single, moved to second on a groundout by senior third baseman Ben Pearson of Madison, Wisconsin (West HS), and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Winning pitcher Currey Thomas (3-5) went the distance. The senior from Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS), scattered three hits and one run over seven innings. He struck out three.

Junior leftfielder Ryan Konkle of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS), knocked Hope's first run with a RBI single in the first half. He knocked home junior shortstop Brady VanderWeele of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Parchment HS), who led off with a double.

In Game 2, Hope jumped out to a 4-0 lead in bottom of the first and a 7-0 lead after three innings.

Junior designated hitter Luke Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS), smacked a grand slam in the first for his first home run of the season.

Twitty added a two-run single, while senior catcher Brian Barnes of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Comstock Park HS), added a RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Winning pitcher Jake Chipka (5-2) tossed six scoreless innings. The junior from Waterville, Ohio (Anthony Wayne HS), struck out one and yielded five hits.

The Flying Dutchmen honored former pitching coach Rick Huisman and four seniors between Games 1 and 2: Barnes, Pearson, Thomas, and second baseman Devin Schaefers of Lake Forest, California (El Toro HS).
