Freshman Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS), fired a 9-over-par 81 to top the Hope College women's golf team during the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday in Howie-in-the-Hills, Florida.

The Flying Dutch are in 12th place in the 21-team field with a score of 338.

The 72-hole, four-day tournament at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort resumes Wednesday morning when three teams complete their first round and the entire field tees off for the second round.

Meyer is tied for 24th place among individuals.

Sophomore Britni Gielow of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), is tied for 46th after shooting an 85.

Three Hope golfers are tied for 56th after finishing with 86s: senior Montana Leep of Hastings, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), junior Morgan Leep of Hastings, Michigan (South Christian HS), and freshman Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS). 

The University of Redlands, California, holds the first-round lead after completing 18 holes with a 314.
