Hope College's Jane Pearson completed the first day of the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 13th place on Thursday in Canton, New York.
The junior from Lake City, Michigan (Northern Michigan Christian HS), totaled 2,738 points while competing in four events at St. Lawrence, University.
The two-day, 22-athlete heptathlon event concludes on Friday. Wisconsin-La Crosse's Erin McCauley leads with 3,019 points.
Pearson's best performance came in the shot put. She finished eighth with a toss of 35 feet, 5 ¼ inches.
Pearson took 12th in the 200-meter run by recording a time of 26.25 seconds.
Pearson placed 16th in the high jump with a leap of 4-9 3/4 and the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.37 seconds.
On Friday, Pearson will compete in the 100-meter dash, long jump and shot put.
Sophomore Erin Herrmann of Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS), did not advance to the 3,000-meter steeplechase final on Saturday.
Herrmann finished 18th during preliminaries after clocking a time of 11:17.93.
