Hope Women's Golf Opens MIAA Title Defense With Convincing Victory

Megan Klintworth and the Hope College women's golf team started their quest to repeat as Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champions with a dominant performance.

The Flying Dutch won the first MIAA tournament of the fall season with a score of 317 Wednesday at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. They finished 23 strokes ahead of runner-up Olivet and 28 ahead of third-place Trine.

Klintworth, pictured, tied for individual medalist honors. The sophomore from Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS), carded a 78 along with Trine's Amy Worthington.

Four Hope golfers completed their rounds within three strokes of each other.

Sophomores Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS), and Megan Wierenga of Byron Center, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), tied for third place after finishing one stroke behind Klintworth.

Junior Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), placed sixth with an 81.

Senior Morgan Leep of Hastings, Michigan (South Christian HS), had an 88.

Hope returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Kalamazoo College at Milham Park Golf Club.
