Box Score Two Hope College men's soccer players scored their first collegiate goals during a 5-2 loss to St. Scholastica, Minnesota on Friday in Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament.
Freshman forward Jared Wondergem of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS), and freshman midfielder Ryan Woodside of Bloomington, Illinois (Normal Community HS), both netted goals early in the second half and pulled the Flying Dutchmen within a goal.
Wondergem scored 2 minutes, 2 seconds into the second half. Freshman midfielder Christian Dault of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), had the assist.
Woodside followed Wondergem by blasting a shot past the St. Scholastica goalie 2:48 later. Junior midfielder William Bennick of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand haven HS), recorded the assist.
St. Scholastica (2-0 overall) did not let Hope get any closer, scoring the final two goals over a seven-minute span midway through the second half.
The Flying Dutchmen play Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the tournament finale.
