Hope Women's Golf Second At First Round Of Carthage Shootout

Britni Gielow and the Hope College women's golf team played well in their first round of the year to be in contention at the 36-hole "Shootout on the Border" in Bristol, Wisconsin.

The Flying Dutch carded a team score of 322 to place three strokes behind first-round leader and host Carthage College. The final round tees off at 9 a.m. Central on Saturday.

Gielow posted Hope's low round of the day. The junior from Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), carded a 6-over-par 78 at Bristol Oaks Country Club and is tied for fourth place. She is four shots off the lead.

Sophomore Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS), is one stroke behind Gielow and tied tied for seventh place.

Sophomore Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS), shot an 80th and is tied for ninth.

Senior Morgan Leep of Hastings, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), trails Klintworth by one stroke. Leep is tied for 11th.

The Flying Dutch also received an 85 from sophomore Megan Wierenga of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian HS), and an 88 from junior Elena Moore of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon East HS).
