Sophomore Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS), tied for fifth place out of 88 golfers to lead Hope College to a third-place finish at the Carthage "Shootout on the Border" on Saturday.
The Flying Dutch posted a 36-hole, two-day team score of 656. They trailed only Carthage (635) and St. Xavier (652) in the 16-team tournament.
Meyer carded a final-round 5-over-par 77 to finish 12-over for the tournament.
Senior Morgan Leep of Hastings, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), topped the Flying Dutch on Saturday with a 76. She placed seventh, one stroke behind Meyer.
Junior Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), tied for eighth at 14-over. She had a final round 80.
Sophomore Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS), tied for 16th at 23-over.
Others to place for Hope were sophomore Megan Wierenga of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian HS), tying for 44th at 33-over and junior Elena Moore of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon East HS), tying for 48th at 34-over.
Hope returns to action next weekend at the 36-hole tournament hosted by Olivet on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11-12.
