The Hope College men's tennis team dropped its home debut to nationally ranked Aquinas College 9-0 on Friday in a nonleague match at DeWitt Tennis Center.
Coach Adam Ford's Flying Dutchmen are now 0-1 on the season. Aquinas (3-0) is ranked 23rd nationally in the NAIA preseason coaches poll.
Freshman Michael Kiley of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores HS) had the closest singles match for Hope with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Gunnar Peery at the No. 2 flight.
At No. 2 doubles, freshman Christian Rhoades of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) and freshman Mark VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) battled before falling 8-4 to Daymon Johnson and Will Buurma.
No. 1 doubles, freshman Andrew Klein of Augusta, Michigan (Kalamazoo Christian HS) and junior Sam Kreps of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) lost to Gunnar Peery and Chase Peery 8-3.
The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Feb. 6 when they host Denison (Ohio) at 2 p.m. at DeWitt Tennis Center.
