The Flying Dutchmen are coming off their most successful season under Greg Mitchell. They recorded their most wins since the 2010-11 season, when they went 27-2. They claimed their MIAA-best 38th league championship and 32nd league title outright. They received an at-large berth to the Division III national tournament for the 25th NCAA postseason appearance. They lost in the second round to Augustana, Illinois.

Hope is ranked No. 22 in the preseason d3hoops.com NCAA Division III poll. The Flying Dutchmen must overcome the graduation of five seniors, including their two leading scorers and rebounders in center Brock Benson and guard Ben Gardner of Carmel, Indiana. The two combined for 27.8 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. Gardner was an All-MIAA First Team Selection. Benson was a second-team pick.
