Three third-period goals powered the Hope College ice hockey team to a 5-2 win against Adrian Black on Friday in the opening round of the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference Tournament at Eagles Ice Center in Grand Rapids.
The third-seeded Flying Dutchmen (19-4-3-1 overall) advanced to Saturday's 4:45 p.m. semifinal at Eagles Ice Center against second-seeded Aquinas. Hope swept Aquinas earlier this season with two one-goal wins.
Freshman Peter Stewart of East Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS) scored twice during the third period to help Hope snap a 2-2 tie after two periods.
Senor Brandon Flood of Mason, Michigan (Lansing Christian HS), freshman Evan Augustine of Maple Grove, Minnesota (Maple Grove HS) and sophomore Garrett Gormley of Fenton, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS) added goals for the Flying Dutchmen.
Senior goalie Eric Lipon of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS) made 19 saves.
