The Hope College women's golf team grabbed the first-round lead at the 36-hole Wellesley Spring Break Invite Tuesday in Orlando, Florida.
Sophomore Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS) carded a 3-over-par 75 at ChampionsGate Golf Club for the low round of the three-team tournament.
Hope shot a first-round score of 316 to lead second-place Carthage, Wisconsin 12 strokes and third-place Wellesley by 45 strokes. The invitational concludes on Wednesday with a noon tee time.
Two Flying Dutch golfers tied for third place with 79s: senior Morgan Leep of Hastings, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) and sophomore Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS).
Sophomore Megan Wierenga of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian HS) added an eighth-place 83 for Hope.
Junior Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS) had an 87.
