The Hope College women's track & field team is third after the first day of the two-day Emory Classic in Atlanta.
The Flying Dutch totaled 34 points during Friday's competition and trial host Emory (70) and Jacksonville State (42). Saturday's competition starts at 9:30 a.m.
Junior Sierra Schultz of Kellogg, Iowa (Grinnell HS) placed third in the 400-meters hurdles with a run of 1:08.44.
Freshman Abby Couwenhoven of Mokena, Illinois (Lincoln Way East HS) clocked a third-place time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 12:35.89.
Senior Jane Pearson of Lake City, Michigan (Northern Michigan Christian HS) came in fifth in the javelin throw at 32.77 meters (107-06). She also was sixth in the long jump at 4.943 meters (16-2 ¼).
Juniors Erin Herrmann of Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS) and Emily Joosse of Chillicothe, Ohio (Zane Trace HS) posted sixth- and seventh-place runs in the 10,000 meters of 40:38.87 and 41:19.57.
Sophomore Alejandra Gomez Limon of Rochester, Michigan (Notre Dame Prep HS) took eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 39.43 meters (129-04).
