Box Score 2 Senior leftfielder Ryan Konkle of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS) homered and totaled five RBI in a losing effort for the Hope College baseball team on Friday.
The Flying Dutchmen totaled 21 runs in a doubleheader at Calvin, but lost 11-10 and 16-11.
Konkle went 2-for-2 with a three-run homer and five RBI during the nightcap. He also walked three times and scored two runs.
The Flying Dutchmen matched their season-high with 11 runs.
Shortstop Jordon Fairchild of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge HS) also collected two hits during the second game. The Flying Dutchmen were outhit 18-10.
Hope fell behind 14-0 in the fourth inning after Calvin erupted for a six-run second and a seven-run third.
In the first game, the Flying Dutchmen nearly rallied after falling behind 11-1 after four innings. Hope scored seven times in the sixth and twice in the seventh, but stranded the tying run at first after third baseman Nicholas Lepore of Clinton Township, Michigan (Warren De La Salle HS) hit a two-out, two-run single.
First baseman Landon Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) also collected two RBI during the game. Brower and Konkle each had two hits.
Hope (5-10 overall, 1-5 MIAA) is scheduled to host Calvin Monday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader. Their series conclusion on Saturday was postponed due to unplayable conditions.
