Hope Women's Track & Field Places First At Alma's Scottie Open

The Hope College women's track & field team won seven events en route to a first-place score of 291 points at the Alma College Jim Cole Scottie Open on Saturday.

The Flying Dutch finished ahead of runner-up Alma (125) in the six-team event.

Hope swept the top four finishes in the javelin throw: senior Jane Pearson of Lake City, Michigan (Northern Michigan Christian HS) at 35.15 meters (115 feet, 3 inches), sophomore Alison Rich of Haslett, Michigan (Haslett HS) at 31.41 (103-1), Sierra Schultz of Kellogg, Iowa (Grinnell HS) at 29.79 (97-9), and sophomore Shannon Crawford of Bettendorf, Iowa (Pleasant Valley HS) at 28.28 (92-9).

The Flying Dutch clocked four of the top five times in the 3,000-meter steeplechase: junior Erin Herrmann of Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton-Warrenville South) in first at 10 minutes, 44.86 seconds, freshman Abby Couwenhoven of Mokena, Illinois (Lincoln Way East HS) in second at 12:12.19, sophomore Alissa Frazee of Watervliet, Michigan (Home School) in fourth at 12:54.94 and junior Mackenzie Govier of China, Michigan (Marine City HS) in fifth at 13:03.79.

Sophomore Alejandra Gomez Limon of Rochester, Michigan (Pontiac Notre Dame Prep HS) won the hammer throw with a heave of 42.96 meters (140-11).

Sophomore Rachael Webb of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grandville HS) took first in the 800-meter run at 2:15.68. Senior Emma Ropski of Park Ridge, Illinois (Maine Township HS) was fifth at 2:21.51.

The 4x100 relay of sophomore Rachel Anderson of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores HS), sophomore Rachel Satkiewicz of Bloomfield, Illinois (Seaholm HS), Schultz and Rich posted a winning time of 52.69.

Hope went 1-2 in the 110-meter hurdles: Rich in 16.47 and Pearson at 16.94. Schultz was fourth at 17.33.

The Flying Dutch took first and third in the 4x400 relay. Pearson, Webb, Ropski and Satkiewicz won at 4:03.42.

Freshman Jessica Korte of Washington, Michigan (Cairo American HS), Schultz, freshman Allison VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) and sophomore Mackenzie Micho of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS) were third at 4:20.32.

Satkiewicz finished runner-up in the 200-meter dash with a run of 26.79. Pearson took fourth at 27.18, while Anderson was fifth at 27.21.

Pearson was runner-up in the shot put at 10.43 meters (34-3). Sophomore Rachel Alford of Snohomish, Washington (Archbishop Murphy HS) placed fourth at 9.55 (31-4), while freshman Maya Smith of Southfield, Michigan (Birmingham Seaholm HS) came in fifth at 9.54 (31-3).

Schultz placed second in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:07.73. VanderStoep was fourth at 1:13.96.

Sophomore Taryn King of East Lansing, Michigan (Haslett HS) took second in the high jump by clearing 1.46 meters (4-9). Rich and Pearson were fourth and fifth, respectively, at 1.41 meters (4-7).

Hope finished 2-3-4 in the pole vault: sophomore Sarah Murphy of Ada, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern HS) at 3.04 meters (9-11), senior Kaylee Kish of Bay Village, Ohio (Bay HS) at 2.89 (9-6) and sophomore Hannah Howard of Jacksonville, Illinois (Routt Catholic HS) at 2.89 (9-6).

Rich placed second in the long jump at 4.98 meters (16-4). Pearson was fourth at 4.88 (16-0).

Senior Karina Winkelman of St. Paul, Minnesota (Woodbury HS) and Satkiewicz went 2-3 in the triple jump at 10.26 meters (33-8) and 10.10 meters (33-2).

Sophomore Haley Fischman of Grand Ledge, Michigan (Lansing Catholic Central HS) came in second in the discus with a toss of 34.27 meters (112-5).

Anderson finished fourth in the 100-meter dash at 13.41. Winkelman was fifth at 13.79.

Sophomore Alexandra Moxon of Naperville, Illinois (Naperville North HS) clocked a fourth-place, 5,000-meter run at 19:55.0.

Sophomore Alexis Guttilla of St. Charles, Illinois (Westminster Christian HS) took fifth in the 1,500-meter run at 4:55.71.

Korte placed fifth in the 400-meter dash at 1:04.28. 

Hope returns to action on Friday-Saturday, April 22-23 at the Grand Valley State Al Owens Invitational.
