Pitchers Coty Franklin and Matt Glowacki teamed up to help the Hope College baseball team avoid a sweep by visiting Trine on Friday.

The Flying Dutchmen rebounded after a 6-1 Game 1 loss to win 5-2 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader's finale at Boeve Stadium.

Franklin (4-1) started and scattered four hits and two runs over 7 2/3 innings. The senior from Vermontville, Michigan (Maple Valley HS) struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Glowacki recorded the final four outs for his sixth save of the season. The senior from Goodrich, Michigan (Goodrich HS) moved within one save of matching Jordan Carrigan's single-season school record from 2010.

Hope supported its pitchers with two runs in the second and seventh innings and a single run in the eighth.

Leftfielder Bradley Kotenko of Macomb, Michigan (Lutheran North HS), shortstop Brady VanderWeele of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Parchment HS) and third baseman Andrew Zawacki of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS) each collected a RBI for the Flying Dutchmen.

First baseman Landon Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

Hope improved to 16-13 overall and 11-7 in MIAA play. The Flying Dutchmen trail second-place Trine by one game head into the Saturday, April 23 series finale at Trine that starts at 1 p.m.

In the opener, Trine (16-13, 12-6 MIAA) limited Hope to four hits and broke open the game with a single run in the fifth and two apiece in the sixth and seventh.

Designated hitter Luke Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) had a RBI single for the Flying Dutchmen.
