Hope Women's Golf Grabs Early Lead At NCAA Qualifier

The depth of the Hope College women's golf team paid off for the Flying Dutch as they started chasing a return trip to the NCAA Division III Championships.

Hope posted three of the top four rounds en route to a first-place team score of 326 on Tuesday at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.

Junior Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS) shot a winning round of 80 to help the Flying Dutch take a 11-stroke lead over second-place Saint Mary's.

Sophomore Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS) and sophomore Megan Wierenga of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian HS) both carded 81s and tied for second place.

Senior Morgan Leep of Caledonia, Michigan (South Christian HS) chipped in an 84 to round out Hope's scoring. She tied for seventh place.

All five Flying Dutch golfers finished within five strokes of each other. Sophomore Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS) had an 85.

The Flying Dutch will host the final two rounds of the 54-hole NCAA qualifier on Friday and Saturday, April 29-30 at The Ravines Golf Club in Sauguatck.

Hope leads third-place Olivet by 12 strokes and fourth-place Trine by 19 strokes.
